Highlow pewple,
So imagine this, you're sitting on a bench by the sea overlooking the beautiful sunset with your pretty, smart, gorgeous girlfriend nestling against your side.you have never felt more in love with her than at that moment right now.amd you subconsciously inch over and she looks at you like she's witnessing a miracle fpr the first time. Your heart is thumping,100bpm. You lean in inch by inch unsure if this is the right moment, 110bpm.she puts her hand on yours the way she does when she feels happy and loved, 120bpm. You touch the side of her beautiful face, not one moment in your life has ever felt so right,so you ever so gently press your lips against hers,130bpm.
Okay cut. show's over folks, because this can never i repeat never happen in the society that we live in, here in srilanka.
Because if something like this were to happen in public all hell would break lose, auntys will have heartattacks, uncles will break their jaws gawking at the what they would call "shameful behabiour". And in a split second what was meant to be a silent celebration of the most beautiful emotion that a human can ever experience, love, will end in shame, disappointment and even detention in a police station for indecent behaviour.
So what comes out of the disapproval of this public display of affection?
Nothing but a notion that love, is not meant to be celebrated for the world to witness but rather be bottled up within yourself and only should be celebrated exclusively behind closed doors.
And one might argue that love, is love no matter where you get to express it.but think about it for a second.when was the last time you have seen a happy couple so comepletely and ardently in love strolling the streets of srilanka completely carefree?
And the answer might be never.
Because we are taught by the "older and wiser" that expressing love is shameful, disgraceful and not acceptable. So what does this in turn instill in us? That loving is something to be ashamed of, that feeling this emotion that is the very essence of humanity is disgraceful and looked down upon.
